At what level and how comprehensively do you want
it approached?
The poem is one of Jeffers's starkest and posits
once again his metaphysics (found in "Apology")
that all being is both violent and beautiful and
the more intense the being, the more violent and
more beautiful. Mercy is blasphemous.
